2011 Patron’s Reception Raises Record Funding!

The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group is very pleased to announce the success of its Patron’s Reception this year.  Hosted by our wonderful champion, The Lord Vestey, at historic Charterhouse in London on 24th March, the event raised a clear £27,294 net profit, all of which will go to our Patient Relief Fund, which ensures that the poorest patients receive treatment regardless of their ability to pay.

The occasion was attended by over 70 guests – all good friends, old and new – who also took part in the fundraising auction that was held on the evening.  Lots included an envy-inducing weekend break on the stunning Canet estate in France, as well as a case of Château Canet wine, a luxury Fortnum and Mason tea hamper kindly donated by Mr Saker Nusseibeh, Head of Investment at Hermes Fund Managers, and a Magnum of San Vicente 2004 from wine merchant Gerrard Seel Ltd.  Cherie Blair donated a signed copy of her husband’s autobiography to be auctioned.

All agreed that Charterhouse was an admirable addition to the roster of grand locations that have played host to this extraordinary event, and guests enjoyed a 20 minute tour of the famous setting as a part of their evening.  A special word of thanks goes to Donna Birkwood, Clerk to the Brothers at Charterhouse, for helping to co-ordinate, and ensure, the smooth-running of the event.

Thank you also to Château Canet, who very generously supplied the red and white wine that was served, and to Gerrard Seel, who delivered it for us.  Water was kindly donated by Hildon Water and the event was catered in-house by the superb Charterhouse chef, Mr Alan Tyrrell.

On behalf of The Lord Vestey, The St John Eye Hospital Group would like to extend its warmest best wishes to all those who attended this wonderful event, as well as to all of those who donated of their time and wares.  Thank you!
