Some of the magnificent award of $304,000 (£186,899) from the Peace for Children Foundation in Sharjah that we told you about last time has been used to support our children’s services. Between April and September this year we were able to treat more than 10,000 children below the age of 18 as a direct result of this award.
And for the very first time, a Gulf donor has sponsored seven key staff members across the main Hospital in Jerusalem and the Gaza, Hebron and Anabta service stations. Nine state-of-the-art medical equipment items have also been purchased, as well as a modern scrubbing machine to maintain hygiene levels in the operating theatre in Jerusalem.
Another important result of this donation has been the purchase of much needed medication and spare parts and, last but certainly not least, $9000 (£5,500) has been allocated to provide spectacles for poor children. We do hope that this fruitful partnership will continue for years to come.
In addition, we recently received the first installment of our award of $256,000 (£157,388) from Kuwait’s Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development. This award will be used to upgrade vital equipment, mainly in the Central Sterilization Supply Department in Jerusalem, and also to advance the medical photography system at Hebron.
As for our strategic partners, Christoffel-Blindenmission, Bible lands, WHO, and the Peres Centre for Peace, they continue their exceptional support of our mission to preserve the gift of sight for poor communities across the occupied Palestinian territory. Without their wonderful support we would not be able to carry on.
