United States Sponsor Jerusalem Resident

In January this year, the Priory of the Order of St John in the United States committed to the three year sponsorship of ophthalmologist in training, Dr. Ala’a Al-Talbishi. The 27-year-old Al-Talbishi is a promising physician in The St John Eye Hospital Group’s residency training program.

Via the Group’s Joint Training agreement with the Nobel Peace Prize nominated Hadassah Medical Centre in West Jerusalem, Al-Talbishi was lucky enough to be chosen to complete his three year residency at Hadassah on a full-time basis.  His training there also began in January and will permit him to study cutting-edge techniques that he can then share with his peers in the St John Group.

Dr Al-Talbishi and his wife and baby live in East Jerusalem. He is originally from the village of Al Majed, 15 kilometers outside of Hebron, and adjacent to the Separation Barrier dividing East Jerusalem from the West Bank.

Graduating from high school with top grades, he earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Science and Technology in Irbid, Jordan. He subsequently completed an internship at the Makassed Charitable Hospital on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, and thence joined the St. John staff.

Al-Talbishi’s commitment to healing is heartfelt: “My goal for studying medicine is to help my people, who are in real need of all kinds of medical services. We need more ophthalmologists, especially in the area of Hebron and Dura, where I am from, and will most likely settle permanently in the future.”

We wish Dr. Ala’a Al-Talbishi all the best for the future and thank the Priory of the United States for this crucial sponsorship of our staff.
