BBC Crew Visits the Hospital Group

A BBC radio crew visited the Hospital Group for a documentary entitled “Life in Many Voices”

Staying at the Jerusalem Hospital from 20 – 27 November 2011, BBC World Service producer, Mike Greenwood , and his crew collected audio material for the radio programme, which will feature the work of the St. John Eye Hospital Group.

Carole Hayman and Josh Pulman are also visiting the Hospital in order to gather promotional and research material about the work of the Hospital Group that could be developed into a proposal for a film on the subject.

The crew conducted several interviews with patients in the Jerusalem Outpatient Clinic, as well as talking to Professor Saul Merin, who was happy to share his extensive experience and discuss his long relationship with St. John. CEO Rod Bull, Medical Director Dr. Jeanne Garth and Nursing Director Ahmad Ma’ali were also interviewed.

Accompanied by PA to the CEO, Rana Bullata, and Jerusalem Fundraising Manager, David Dahdal, the crew then joined our Outreach Team on a visit to Zbeidat, a village in the southern West Bank. Dr. Bashar Jaber, while treating his patients, spoke about several of his Outreach cases and Khaled Zuaiter, Outreach Coordinator, explained the importance of the Mobile Outreach Project.

The BBC crew also visited the home of one of the Zbeidat villagers, who had come to our Outreach clinic with his three children. The crew was welcomed into his home and heard of the difficulties of his daily life and of his gratitude to the St. John Eye Hospital Group for helping his children to realise their potential.
