In order to provide the level of charitable care required of us in East Jerusalem, Gaza and the West bank, we are reliant on our 216-strong team of professional and dedicated staff, 93 of whom are Nurses.  Staff costs – from ancillary staff to our doctors – make up approximately 60% of our overall charity expenditure. 

In 2011 our dedicated team of Nurses and Sisters cared for the more than 107,000 patients who attended the various outpatient clinics (East Jerusalem, Hebron, Anabta and Gaza).   On the wards more than 4000 surgical and medical patients received pre and post surgical care from our Nurses.

Sponsoring a Nurse is a wonderful way to support the work of St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group.  It brings staff closer to supporters, and supporters directly champion those performing the vital humanitarian services that our charity provides.  Although it is funding a post not an individual, the donor develops a special relationship with the person currently occupying the post.  The donor receives a twice yearly report on the post/person sponsored - telling the donor of the work and achievements of the individual.  The person sponsored wears, with pride, a badge on their uniform that identifies the donor. 

In an area where employment is by no means guaranteed, long-term sponsorship makes a difference to the lives and morale, not only of our staff , but also of their extended families.
